Well not quite but it’s close enough. I’m in good shape.
Here’s a random pic I took of the jedi Leia tunic last week just for IG. No updates here.
Got a new button cover kit last week, so I replaced Padme’s cuff buttons for a 3rd time. Please I never want to do this again.
Luna supervised.
Finished all my little updates on wedding Leia. Since the April photoshoot I have:
-added the trim to the top of the cincher
-shortened the front hem so I don’t keep stepping on it
-fixed the gathering issue at the bust, it shouldn’t “collapse” on itself anymore. The way I did this is kinda stupid but it works and I’ll talk about it later after I’ve tested it “in the wild.”
-bound the eyelets on the cincher – I noticed they were snagging the back of the dress.
-added sleeve trim
-a ton of unnecessary beading on the back applique
-shortened the wig so it’s closer in length to my ewok village leia wig
If you notice the sleeve trim is different than what I showed you last week. I took that off. I didn’t like it. I ordered something new. And then didn’t like that either. I ended up using some trim leftover from Post-Senate Amidala with some dark green beads sewn in between each “loop” so it resembles the neckine trim.
Last week, I also restyled my Scully wig again. I was bagging it up to pack and thought, I need to try this on one more time. I’m glad I did because it had a weird sort of “bump” on the left side, and I just felt like the curl under wasn’t looking great… so I redid it this time with the curlers just on the ends, and with the front pinned up to get that “swoop” and it looks a lot better.
Saturday I took Kevin swimming!
We’ve only gotten to go to the pool one other time this summer. Now that I’m mostly done we went over Saturday morning.
I attempted to prevent another allergic reaction to sunscreen on my face, but alas. I tried to just spray some spray sunscreen on my hands (i have not yet had a reaction to spray sunscreen, but I don’t use it often), dilute it, and then rub it on mostly focusing on my neck, and letting my hat shield my face, but that didn’t work. By that night my face was SO hot I had to get an icepack out, itchy and red. Mostly right along my jaw line which I suspect is because that’s where I got the most sunscreen from putting it on my neck. I want to go swimming again this weekend, but I gotta find something new to use.
Spent some time with Winston and Izzi.
Sunday was a lot of work. Yeah even though I’m supposedly done!
This is what I spent most of my time Sunday working on.
Chase modified, printed and assembled this tricorder for me from a file on thingiverse. He modified it so it has an open top so I can use it as a purse. I spent most of yesterday trying to engineer a bag that would fit inside it as a lining, and a top closure. I was trying to put a zipper in, but by bag prototype #3 I realized I couldn’t even fit my phone through the zipper so that was pointless. Asked Chase for ideas, he said why not just make it a flap with a magnet and I was like duh. That’s such a better idea.
So the interior is black felt just to pad it out, but the main panel is this black pleather I had, sewn onto a kobracast base that already had a natural curve to it from being rolled up. It curves over and closes with a magnet at the back. I also made the strap and got that sewn on. Still need to do the buttons in the front and the other “screen” – I decided to do the buttons as rhinestones because why not. Ordered some yesterday that should fit in the openings.
I also cut some of the same felt a lining for Chase’s Vader shins. Luna decided it was hers.
She really said “Work around me.”
I also finally finished my Lothal Leia hairpiece!
Chase finished up my accessories so I got the comb sewn in, then sewed the bun to the base.
I had to test out how I was going to put my hair underneath it, originally tried a very flat little twisted bun on the back of my head, but that was just enough bulk that it made it not sit right. So I tried out what I do for Hoth Leia and that worked (braid my own hair and wrap it around the top of my head as extra bulk for the braids), just need to get my own hair hidden a little better when I actually wear it.
My other accessories – assembling the belt tonight, and then I can finally mark everything for Lothal Leia off my to-do list.
Got the toe caps glued to the boots!
In other news, binging Good Omens. I loved the book back in the day, and started watching season 1 but for whatever reason never finished episode 2. No idea why, it wasn’t that we weren’t liking it. So last week I started it over, watching the first season, and now currently have 2 episodes left of season 2 so I’ll be done with that before dcon.
Ok let’s update the to-do list:
Rebels Leia:
paint accessories
attach (partially done)
make hair piece
Nadja:
test vampire fangs (was going to do this last night but decided to wait on Chase, since he needs to form his to his teeth also, figured we could help each other)
Breha:
Paint buckle/attach
Seven of Nine:
paint combadge
Seven is totally done. Pips came in, glued magnets on the combadge – good to go.
Beefsquatch:
install new zippers and shorter straps
Jedi Leia::
add more snaps to tunic
paint helmet (partially done)
make belt buckle (in dad’s hands)
attach badge (just sewing on some velcro)
add velcro to belt
Vader:
he needs to try everything on so I can make sure I don’t need to fix anything. Also need to finish sewing on his cape chain but didn’t want to do that til he had the shoulder armor done.
All of this is do-able. I’ll have one more check in before “the big dance” – I’m hoping to be totally done by like Friday? Then spent the weekend cleaning up, finishing packing, getting our hair done, swimming…
Leaving you with Lower Decks me:
